Last Week: --------------------------- Denver struggled against a tough Panthers team. Cutler was not sharp and the offense never got going. This left the door open for San Diego to remain in the hunt for the division crown. A win this week, coupled with a Chargers' loss will ice the AFC West for Denver.
Prediction: Denver 24 Carolina 27
Actual: Denver 10 Carolina 30
This Week: --------------------------- Denver hosts the Bills. Denver has everything to play for and the Bills are out. Denver is at home. So all signs point to a Denver win. While this is a good matchup for Denver, it's still going to be tough going.
Prediction: Denver 20 Buffalo 17
Rumors: ---------------------------
Injuries: --------------------------- Questionable: T Ryan Clady (Ankle); S Vernon Fox (Concussion); G Chris
Kuper (Hand); WR Brandon Stokley (Foot); CB Champ Bailey (Groin);
FB/LB Spencer Larsen (Groin)
Probable: CB Josh Bell (Thigh); LB Mario Haggan (Knee); S Marquand
Manuel (Hamstring); WR Brandon Marshall (Hip/Thigh); S Marlon McCree
(Ankle); CB Karl Paymah (Groin); DT Dewayne Robertson (Knee); LB D.J.
Williams (Knee/Shoulder); RB Selvin Young (Groin)
Position Analysis: --------------------------- QUARTERBACKS: Cutler struggled in a game he should have dominated. Do you want to count on him for your Super Bowl? In most cases... yes. There are a few QBs out there with better matchups and talent but not many. Prediction: Cutler 250 yards, 2 TDs.
RUNNING BACKS: Pope, Bell and Young shared carries with no RB getting more than 7 last week. All are relatively healthy so expect more of the same. In other words, don't use any of these unless you're desperate (then I'd try Young) Predictions: Young - 50 yards, 1 TD. Bell - 40 yards. Pope - 30 yards
WIDE RECEIVERS: Marshall and Royal both had lousy games last week (48 yards each). Look for both to improve on those numbers but only Marshall is a must-start. Predictions: Marshall - 80 yards, 1 TD. Royal - 50 yards. Stokley - 30 yards.
TIGHT ENDS: Graham had 3 catches last week and we're back to early season "DON'T USE DENVER TEs" mode.
PLACE KICKER: Prater is an experiment that has run its course. He can't handle NFL kicking duties. Find someone else if you have him on your team and are in the hunt.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: Not a horrible matchup but you can do better. As with the kicker, find another option.

Kansas City Chiefs

Last Week: --------------------------- Dolphins - 38, Chiefs - 31: It was minus-12 degrees with the wind chill when this game started ... the second-coldest game ever for the Chiefs and THE coldest game ever for the Dolphins. And, neither one of these teams are exactly offensive juggernauts. So what happens? 69 points and nearly 900 yards of offense between the two. For the Chiefs, Tyler Thigpen was the star of the game with 357 yards of offense, 2 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. At the next level came Jamaal Charles, Larry Johnson, and Tony Gonzalez who all gained enough yardage to get you your position bonus and they each scored a touchdown. Even Devard Darling "exploded" for 3 catches, 69 yards and a touchdown. But, in the end, my beloved Men In Red did just enough to lose the game and lock up no worse than the third pick in next spring's NFL draft. So our new coach and GM will begin their tenure in KC with a franchise-altering player, hopefully.
This Week: --------------------------- In maybe the least interesting game in the history of the franchise, the Chiefs travel to Cincinnati to close out this horrible season. On the bright side, even if we win, we can't screw up our draft position. Hey ... when you're going through the worst season in the history of the franchise, you've gotta grab on to something positive.
Rumors: --------------------------- It's kind of funny to hear the debate going around KC about whether or not Herm Edwards should be back next year or not. Hey, I actually LOVE the guy and wish him nothing but the best, but he's 2-23 in his last 25 games. That's NOT a rebuilding effort. That's what you would get if you lost the entire team in a tragic accident and had to start all over again. Sorry Herm, but it's time for somebody else to get this train wreck back on track.
Injuries: --------------------------- Nothing that will affect your fantasy squad.
Position Analysis: --------------------------- QUARTERBACKS: Tyler Thigpen had been pretty average over the last three weeks, but he absolutely exploded against the Dolphins. Last Sunday was a perfect game to feed the ball to Larry Johnson about 40 times (trust me, he's rested enough), but Chan Gailey decided to throw the ball more than 40 times in the brutal cold and wind. I don't know why we would expect the Chiefs to do anything else this week. Projection: Thigpen - 260 yards passing, 45 yards rushing, 3 TDs (2 passing, 1 rushing), 1 int.
RUNNING BACKS: Larry Johnson averaged almost 10 yards per carry last week against a very tough defense, but they only let him touch the ball 12 times. I'm not an offensive guru, but I would think you'd want that guy to get the ball just a few more times. The Chiefs apparently don't. Larry Johnson is probably a good low-end #2 fantasy RB this week, even though the Bengals blow on defense. Jamaal Charles got 75 of his 115 total yards on one play. Otherwise, he did just about what we expected. Johnson is probably safe to start (with lowered expectations) and Charles is a mediocre start if you're desperate at a flex position. Projection: Johnson - 110 total yards, 1 TD; Charles - 60 total yards, 0 touchdowns.
WIDE RECEIVERS: I'm honestly not wild about any of the Chiefs receivers this week, but Dwayne Bowe should be a good #3 WR and the same goes for Mark Bradley. Everyone else should be avoided. Projection: Bowe - 90 yards and 1 touchdown; Bradley - 6 catches, 75 yards.
TIGHT ENDS: This COULD be the last game of Tony Gonzalez' career as a Chief if our new GM gets a decent offer for draft picks in next years' draft. Gonzo will be in the Chiefs Ring of Honor at the stadium within three years of his retiring and in Canton, OH five years after he retires. Here's hoping that he goes out with a bang! Projection: 8 catches - 110 yards, 1 touchdown.
PLACE KICKER: Conner Barth is like 15 other NFL kickers this week who will put up a couple of FGs and a couple of XPs.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: The Chiefs D will have an entirely new look next year when the new coach is hired. So, a lot of these guys SHOULD be playing for their jobs. My guess is that the Chiefs D will play just badly enough to not get you very many fantasy points. However, they're still among the league leaders in causing turnovers, so if your league rewards that, .... oh hell, what am I saying? There's no way you can play the NFL's #32-ranked defense.

Oakland Raiders

Last Week: --------------------------- The Raiders won big over the visiting Texans in what should be the last time you see a majority of the players live before the new Coach brings in a whole new bunch of players.
This Week: --------------------------- Raiders head to Tampa to play the same team that has started the down slide they had for years now, look for a Tampa Win!
Rumors: --------------------------- Al Davis needs to hire a GM
Injuries: ---------------------------
Position Analysis: --------------------------- QUARTERBACKS: Russell has been hot as of late but not hot enough for the playoffs/b>
RUNNING BACKS: Look for McFadden to get alot of touches this week
WIDE RECEIVERS: Please! They will have one next year! - Projection: No over 50 yards, 0 touchdowns.
TIGHT ENDS: Look for several catches but not much more from Zach Miller - Projection: 3 catches - 30yards
PLACE KICKER:I even Dropped SeaBass from my squad!!
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: Bypass the Raiders any way you can!!

San Diego Chargers

Last Week: --------------------------- A very important and exciting game was played in Tampa Sunday. The Chargers team that everyone expected to see this year, showed up and was seemingly unstoppable as Rivers threw for four TD's and LT picked up a respectable 90+ yards on the ground to get him over the 1,000 yard mark for the eighth time in eight seasons. V. Jackson made some nice catches and Gates finally looked to be back to his old self catching a couple of TD passes from Rivers.
This Week: --------------------------- Denver comes to San Diego this week riding a losing streak that will be difficult to overcome. With no running game to speak of and a porous defense, they will have a tough time pulling out a road win against Rivers and the Chargers who have new life and are on a roll trying to make it four in a row to close out the regular season. It is likely the 8-8 Chargers win the West......still sad.
Rumors: --------------------------- Rivera will have the defense playing better...........
Injuries: --------------------------- WR Malcolm Floyd suffered a partially collapsed lung at KC and is questionable this week.
TE Scott Chandler: Toe – placed on IR.
OLB Shawn Merriman: Knee – Updated 9/8/08…..Shawn will have season ending surgery and be placed on IR.
Position Analysis: --------------------------- QUARTERBACKS:
Philip Rivers took it to Tampa Bay this week showing critics all the reasons he should be going to Hawaii. This week should be no different as he puts it on the Denver D.
RUNNING BACKS:
LaDainian Tomlinson went over the 1000 yard mark for the eighth time, but this season was much tougher than previous years. I'm hopeful the off-season helps LT get back to form and the Chargers address the need for O-line blocking improvement.
LaDainian Tomlinson this week: 80 yards rushing, 1 TD and I like Sproles to maybe get another TD again this week.
WIDE RECEIVERS: Chris Chambers is doing better and Vincent Jackson is still making some crucial catches. Play VJ.
Vincent Jackson - 75 yards, 1TD.
Chris Chambers – 30 yards .
TIGHT ENDS:
Antonio Gates had some nice catches against TB as well as a couple of TDs. He could have a big game this week.
PLACE KICKER:
Nate Kaeding: can't kick for a touchback to save his life but did boot a 57 yard FG this week at Tampa. Go figure. Maybe two more FG's this week with a couple of XP's.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS:
The defense made a couple of mistakes at Tampa but ultimately put a hurtin' on Garcia and stopped all momentum they had in the second half. Cutler may want to get a look at Garcia's face before he thinks about taking off on a scramble.
Special Teams: Still the strongest unit in San Diego.
GO CHARGERS!!!!!!!!
